For the purpose of maximum transformation possible of energy available in steam, these turbines have a point in common – pass-out pressure below atmospheric pressure (vacuum artificially produced by a condenser) Normally they are used for the primary purpose of power generation (or driving high powered equipment), and they may (or may not) provide steam for processes by means of intermediate extractions.
Due to the great energy surge of steam and with the goal of the greatest possible efficiency, these turbines are almost always of the multi stage type. Conceived according to a modular concept, they may generate from 1,000 to 80,000 kW, under nominal steam conditions (inlet ) that go from 2 bar abs saturated up to 120 bar abs / 540º C.
They are ideal in power generation plants or industrial plants with the own power generation – cogeneration, for sale or their own consumption – which have surplus steam in their balance.
